Under paid over worked

May 2nd, 2010

Had a bit of a down day today, been at work as usual and realised that I had had said I would no longer be working here by now when I first got the job. The job I am currently in was supposed to be a stop gap between me leaving my last job and moving onto better things, but thanks to the job situation being so appalling and the fact that my time is limited without me spending a lot of it looking for and applying for jobs on top, I’m stuck here for the moment. I still have every intension of leaving when I get the chance, but I might as well make the most of it at least I’m still getting paid regularly which is more than lots of people can say.

With my long term plan in tatters, I have had to start building a new one. All the things we have put on hold recently will have to be considered sooner or later, children, holidays, houses. Splitting the money up to have the best of all worlds is pretty complicated. My company offered me their group health insurance when I first joined, which I declined, it not being a priority, but should it be? I am however tempted to go for their pension scheme, but think that I should probably wait until I am in a job I intend to stay in.

The company that I work for is severely understaffed and I am always so busy that I rarely take a lunch break, I’m not complaining about the hard work but it regularly goes unappreciated and therefore I wish to work somewhere that recognises the work that people do. But rather that hop into any job I know I can do again, I want something stable that I can stay in and enjoy. With 5 years of university behind me I wouldn’t have thought that was too much to ask.
