The recession worst for the UK

September 10th, 2009

I think I am turning into my Dad.  Normally when I get up in the morning I rush around to get out just about on time.  I have started getting up earlier and having breakfast while watching the news.  This is one of my main childhood memories of my Dad.

I also get constant news updates at work on the schools home page.  I have read some quite interesting things, one of the most surprising things I have seen is a story about Britain being the best country in Europe to do business (and 5th in the world).

The reason this surprised me was all the stories about how the UK is take the longest to recover from the recession.  I would have thought that it the UK would have fallen in the tables because of this.  It seems that France and Germany are already on the way out of recession leaving us behind.  This is mainly because we are a country that has never really backed our manufacturing business, concentrating more on finance and investments.  Because this recession was because of the banks were a lot more affected.  It is also thought that the economy will never recover to it previous level, producing long term affects for the UK.

With much Europe and the US in trouble it seems sensible for people to look offshore for their financial services to countries to that were not involved in selling bad debt.  One thing that has come about because of the recession is the drop in property prices.  With the interest rate so low now could be the time to invest in UK property.  I have also heard very good things about investing in property abroad.  There is some good money to be made if you are willing to risk investment in real estate in places like Panama.
