Rubbish TV

September 6th, 2009

The children at my school (secondary) were actually complaining about the length of this holiday before we broke up, saying it starts off well, but by the end their parents want rid of them from under their feet and they have run out of inspiration of things to do.  I can’t remember feeling this way my self when I was this age, but I did use to spend at least a week with my Gran, lots of time outside playing with my friends and the rest of the time I spent reading. With the boom of the internet, enough media in various forms to last many life times, and good old imagination for role play, I can’t imagine how they can be bored nowadays.

The one problem I have with the school hols this year has been daytime TV.  I put the TV on for background noise whilst I decorate, tidy or whatever, but with lots of sky channels the repeats are too much.  Some channels play the same show 4 times in one day, and if you miss it then you only have to switch one channel than it is done.

Some of the programmes I find ridiculous.  To start with there is deal or no deal, some how the contestants seem to be under the illusion that there is skill involved in playing the game.  The whole programme comes down to what’s in your box, just open it and find out then go make a decent programme.  Recently there has been a programme on where people are saving for something special and instead of waiting they give it to an antiques dealer to see if they can make a quick profit buying and selling antiques.  The first time I watched the programme they were looking to get £2000 and had already saved £1,000.  They also had a clock which the dealer said was worth £1,500, well selling the clock gives them more than they need so what is the point of continuing.

It seems the amount of rubbish on the TV is increasing or maybe it is just me turning into a grumpy old man.
