Nice foods

August 14th, 2009

We have had a very stressful year and as such I believe I have become some what of an expert on a few things, the first being caramel shortcake or millionaires shortcake.  Thornton’s outstrips the competition to the extent that a packet of 12 can be obliterated by the two of us in about 6 seconds.

Chocolate and sweets have been easy to come by in our household, as I have mentioned my wife is a secondary school teacher and sometimes needs confectionary as bribes or prizes for quizzes, the only problem is a packet of Haribo as the caption suggests (kids and grown ups) are  irresistible after a day or two in the pantry.  We had to over buy on all of these treats.

The other thing I have brought more of than ever before is wine.  Now I don’t proclaim to be an expert here for the simple reason we buy cheap; that is either 3 for a tenner, (very widely available) or half price.  There are a few well named brands which we swear by though, Banrock Station and first cape.  We are both fond of the Australian shiraz for the meaty punchy character. I have drank lots of different wines, thanks to offers and booze cruises; funnily enough one of the wines which I have least enjoyed was an expensive bottle brought specially (Around £25) which was almost undrinkable, that has put me off buying the more expansive stuff.

The one area I will spend is sparkling red wine; I absolutely love this drink as its quirky, unusual and absolutely gorgeous. The problem is that due to its rareness it can be expensive (I have never seen it below £7), but it is special for me and my wife as we have drank it on most significant occasions for the duration of our relationship.  Another time which it is brilliant to break out a bottle of the red sparkler is Christmas.  The celebratory nature and fantastic colour make it especially festive.

Time to go to the shops to buy a bottle of sparkling banrock station … cant be that long until Christmas.
