I cannot believe the weather has finally turned and I’m stuck inside doing DIY again… OK so that really is my own choice, now I’ve got started I just want to get it all finished and I’ve actually got the time for once with it being the school summer holidays. B&Q has become our regular haunt of late, we’ve been twice just today! The reason I cant wait to finish is because its great seeing everything come together, the living room is my main and current project and its going really well, the laminate flooring went down today, the hallway is almost there, just needs the laminate flooring to replace the carpet, the kitchen is complete. Although I have done the bathroom once I think I want to change it again already.
The rooms have both had a superficial facelift, they had the dark red patterned wallpaper removed and then the walls were patched and painted a light blue, the flooring has been replaced (again dark red) with clean white cushioned vinyl. All of the extras; the mirror, toothbrush holders, mats and the rest were brought new after painstaking hunting and choosing and shopping, and I also discovered I dislike shopping for bathroom accessories. The process seemed endless to be honest and yet it’s still not right. I think that I need to start getting clever with the space I have (a very tiny one) to really make these rooms better.
If there is one thing I’ve learnt doing all this DIY, it’s that it’s worth taking the time to read some advice before starting any project. I think therein lies my mistake, I didn’t bother with these rooms. I’m currently redesigning the bathroom completely, with corner units instead of the standard bath and sink, I’m even considering putting in an arch or door to create more space. Any advice from people with the same problems will be greatly received. One person has suggested the kind of doors they have in the newer travel lodges where the main door swivels around and also acts at the toilet door (its kind of hard to explain).
For now I think it’s off to the drawing room… I will let you know how it goes.
