My wifes Grandma was rushed into hospital this week. Thankfully she is OK and will becoming out soon, but not a lot of thanks go to the staff. She has been in for 5 days and so far has forgotten to give her the pain killers for her back she has been taking for the past 20 years. When my in laws went to visit they noticed her deteriorate but thought that was because of the low iron levels. It turns out that she was in so much pain that she was delirious with it. The staff did admit to it though and apologised which I think is very good of them, so many times people will try to cover things like this up. She has also had to have some kind of iron treatment that they nearly messed up. When my mother in law asked the doctors how long it should take they all came up with different answers ranging from 4 to 6 hours. Because she was not confident in their abilities she found a leaflet about it which said that that the treatment should have taken 8 hours at the minimum. Now they are refusing to treat her until the lead doctor is present. It’s bad when the patients families have to make sure the doctors are doing things right.
We went to visit her at the new Kings Mill hospital. They have recently built a new building for the hospital. It’s a colourful multi-storey building made from glass. It has also been filled with the latest technology. When she visited she was in a room by her self and they had a brilliant bit of kit to entertain patients. It is a monitor that swings out to sit across the bed. On it you have everything you need, a phone line, digital TV, internet access and games. You have to pay for it but at £10 for 5 days it is not too bad if you are stuck in bed for a week. The company is called Hospedia, which sound like it is designed just for hospitals and is probably in lots of hospitals around the country but its new to me and it looks great.
