I am looking to cut my costs a bit so I am afraid that the TV might have to go. I am currently on Sky for phone, broadband, and television but it is an extravagance. When I was first looking at what to get I only looked at the three main companies (BT, Sky and Virgin Media) and found Sky to be the cheapest and least confusing. At the moment I am paying around £27 for the package but I think I can get something similar for £6 without the TV.
I originally choose sky after comparing it to Virgin Media and found it to be a lot cheaper. I am now thinking that Sky is a bit of an extravagance and I should probably go with free view and get a cheap internet and phone deal. At the moment I pay for an 8mbps but only get a 2mbs at best, I can get that with a 40GB per month download cap for £6.
What is all comes down to is will I miss the channels I lose by only having freeview. I will miss the Good Food channel and UK Gold but I think I can live without the rest. Unfortunately I have found that I receive very poor digital signal, my DAB radio does not work at all and the upstairs TV that is connected to the freeview box doesn’t get much in the way of reception.
I have been looking for freeview boxes and there is a lot of choice out there. There are some that seem very advanced like the Eurovox and the DreamBox, and I wonder if they would give me a better signal. From reading around on the Internet that seem to be mainly used for illegal purposes, to watch subscription television without paying for it. I don’t really understand why they would be sold in the UK if they are illegal. I believe the that Eurovox only connects to a cable connection, and as Virgin own the whole cable network and do not allow the use of any third party boxes they much be for illegal purposes.
I have found another option that I had not considered and that is FreeSatellite. It seems pretty good, there are loads of channels and you get even more using a card from sky that costs a one of £20 payment. I think I am going to look into it more, there is a lot of satellite for people needing help like me as it all seems complicated.Tags: digital, freesat, freeview, Television
