Summer picnics

June 1st, 2009

Well it looks like the summer has arrived. We have had some fantastic sunny weather. I love it when the sky is blue, but I suffer a lot from the heat, after a certain temperature I just switch off. I hope that this kind of weather keeps up; we need a good summer after the past few terrible ones.

My wife loves having picnics and BBQ’s and last year we managed a total of one picnic and one BBQ, on both occasions it was still quite cold and windy. It was difficult to even get the BBQ lit and it quickly blew out.

It is predicted that the hottest day so far this year will be today at around 7pm when temperatures reach up to 28oC in the South. All day today staff at the school where I work have been complaining that they are melting. I really want to make the most of the weather so hopefully we will get a few more picnics in before the weather changes.

My favourite recipes for picnics are Kibbeths which I have mentioned before and the whole loaf sandwich. It is the best sandwich in the world. To make it you need to buy loads of your favourite sandwich fillings, tomotoes, roasted red peppers, lettuce, meats, and anything else you want. Then you cut the top off the loaf and tear out all the soft inside. Layer all the fillings into the empty crust and squash it down. Then put the top back on and you have your self one fantastic sandwich. I can never stop eating it when we have one.

We are pretty well equipped for picnics, my wife has at least 4 different picnic sets. We have one for ever occasion, a wicker traditional one for 4 people, a small back pack for 2 people, a bright pink bag filled with plastic plates and bowls, and several other similar ones. Whatever happens we will have a picnic set for the occasion.

With BBQs we always use disposable ones as they are so easy to use then throw away afterwards. We are not that inventive as with picnics, it’s always just what ever the supermarket is selling at the time.

What ever happens we don’t have long because the weather is predicted to change by the end of the week because of the cool air gathering over Scotland. At least we have had a bit of sun.
