Shopping for clothes

June 8th, 2009

Women’s fashion has me completely baffled, I was subjected to 5 hours of shopping at the weekend and the majority of that was traipsing around women clothing stores.  My wife has joined the hordes of young ladies wearing leggings (an item of clothing which was reserved until recently for 5 year olds and new mothers) and really long t-shirts.  It seams like slouchy and comfortable is in, which is good because at least it doesn’t take her hours to get ready anymore, however it does mean that next season it will be a sin to be seen in such clothes again.  The same happened with long skirts a few years ago; she brought loads and now complains she can’t wear them anymore.

The only issue I have with the long t-shirt thing is she now steals mine! As if she doesn’t have enough clothes; we have 3 wardrobes and I’m down to about a half of one.

Anyways back to the shopping trip, we must have been in at least 20 clothes shops, the usual suspects (topshop, miss Selfridges, new look (I’m irritated that I can actually name most of them)) at the stock seemed practically identical in each store.  Leggings all exactly the same but with different price tags and long t-shirts, ok these do differ, but only in colour and print, the cut is the same.  She brought various different ones but not the one which I actually paid any attention to.  Dorothy Perkins has a range which is connected with the woodland trust.  They have one t-shirt which I thought was nice it was green with a squirrel across it, in addition each one of these sold gives £5 to the woodland trust charity.

As I understand it, the high street is governed by the catwalk.  Usually the models wear the most bizarre thing the designer could think of, along with an equally bizarre hat. I can only guess but I’m thinking the designer couldn’t be bothered this season. Sorry dear!
