Whether you love it or hate it you can’t help but notice that it’s that time again, big brother time. I admit with slight shame that I did enjoy the first few series of the show; the novelty value was good at that time, because shows like that didn’t exist. However I have managed to avoid watching it for the past about 5 years. I have always been vaguely aware of the characters resident in the house over this time thanks to newspaper and watching panel comedy shows, (8 out of ten cats, which I try not to miss, always has a BB special). This year is tuning out to be a little different. This is the first year of living in our own house with my wife. Being a secondary school teacher she claims that watching the show will help with pupil relations, as the kids are all really looking forward to it. I’m just going to have to try resisting getting drawn into it.
I should just be pleased that she doesn’t insist on watching any of the other programmes I can’t stand ‘for pupil relations’. My parents watch the whole range of phone in ‘talent’ show type programmes which have popped up over all of the channels; I think they all stemmed from X factor but I’m not sure. The z-rated celebs have also got involved in this sort of show as well, there was a celeb circus performing show, dancing on ice, strictly and numerous others, I swear if they made celeb toilet attendant the nation would call in to rate the soap dispensing technique!
The other shows I don’t watch are the soaps. I spend a couple of months watching Eastenders back when Cat Slater was on the square, but now only see the odd few minutes now and then when I’m waiting to see something else.
I’m defiantly looking forward to the TV fashion to change away from the current trend. Please make more comedy programmes!!!!!!!
