Expensive mistake

June 16th, 2009

With a new kitten I recently brought pet insurance with PetPlan, we got it a little bit late as we have just discovered a small lump on his side that we will now not be covered for.  The insurance company stipulates that we are not covered for the first 14 days of the cover because they do not cover previous illnesses.

You can pretty much insure anything you like.  There is the obvious ones like car and home insurance but my wife has even insured her legs in the past.  I thought it was a bit extreme but she was a very good ice skater that competed internationally.

One of the affects of the credit crunch is that people are skipping on their car insurance more and more often.  I think it is stupid to skip on car insurance, its not there to protect you, it there to protect the people around you in case you hit them.  Legally you only have to get third party insurance, but that normally comes with fire and theft as well.

With all the companies out there offering car insurance there is a lot of competition out there the prices are kept quite low.  There is not real excuse not to have car insurance, if you can not afford it then sell your car so you are not tempted to drive it.  It is drivers that drive without insurance that push up other peoples premiums.

Even if you can not be bothered to search though loads of companies there are plenty of comparison websites out there that search though loads of insurance companies and brokers.  I do not particularly trust the comparison websites because when I have used them the price they quote is never the same as what it ends up being.   For something like home insurance I always go with Tesco as it ends up cheaper every year.
