Eating out

June 14th, 2009

In my last blog, I advocated cooking; to be specific it was cooking at home.

The thing is I’m not against eating out either, until buying our house we used to frequent Mr Manns; a Chinese restaurant, very close to Wollaton park in Nottingham.  This is the restaurant in which I proposed to my wife, and I had spent many family birthdays there before that.  It’s not usual to spend over £20 a head there, but the atmosphere, food and service are worth it.  The only other Chinese restaurant I have found to better it, is a place in Lancaster called golden dragon (and believe me I have looked hard).

I like the ease of booking a restaurant for an occasion.  It’s no effort; no clearing up and unlike the cinema you can have a good conversation too.  Sometimes the best places to go are the non commercial ones in the back streets.  They have to try harder to compete for custom and you can often find a gem you want to keep going back too.

I like the big chain pubs for their offers though.  Slug and lettuce has fantastic food and at half the price should not be missed. Every Monday they have a half price offer on all main meals it’s almost the same price as eating at McDonalds.

That said if I see an advert for Maccy D’s I can not resist. They have me hooked with the lovely big mac sauce. You use to be able to get something that tasted similar as this but from a super market but I haven’t seen it for ages.

The key I guess is to find a balance between catering for yourself and eating out depending on what you can afford and how healthy you want to be, restaurant food can be extremely unhealthy.
