Childrens books

June 24th, 2009

I enjoy reading a lot.  I when I was young I used to read quite a bit, but I only ever read Roald Dahl which was quite limited.  I have since moved on to fantasy books.  I love the disc world books I have no idea about how many there actually is at the moment but I have them all on a shelf in our library (little bedroom so full of books we call it the library).  I really got into Terry Pratchett books during my first year of Uni and since then have gone through them all, some twice.

At the moment I am listening to them at work on audio book.  It’s nice to have something to listen to while I am filing all the worksheets and generally tidying up after teachers.  At the moment I am on Equal Rites, which I read so long ago I have forgotten all about it so the story is like new again.

At the moment my wife is reading the Twilight trilogy, she is on the second book and is really into it.  She was recommended it by one of her pupils in her form.  They have formed a small reading groups and are currently working their way though the Booker prize nomination list and are a good way through it.  They say it is better than Harry Potter, but that could never be.  I love the Harry Potter books, they must be my most read books.  I have read the first 4 at least 4 times.

It is sad to think that many children grow up with out a single book in their house.  With children not being exposed to books it is not surprising that some children manage to get to secondary school without ever learning to read.
