New phones on markets better for environment

April 30th, 2009

It’s hard to guess what mobile phone manufactures are going to come up with next. The mobile industry seems to be constantly evolving, it hard to know what function they are going to come up with next. Mobiles are pretty much able to run you life, and it must be hard to think of new ideas. It looks like mobile phone manufacturers next move is to go green. I did not realise how many toxic chemicals are used in making a phone. Its a scary list, and I think it is brilliant that companies are popping up, like Fonebank, that pay you to recycle your old phones. They use really cheesy adverts of people with huge grins when they receive the money from them but if it gets more phone recycled it must be good.

While looking for a new phone, I found an interesting idea. A more environmentally friendly phone from Samsung, it interested me with the idea of the solar panel on the back of it. I’m not sure how practical as I can imagine it being very fragile, and I’m not the most careful with my phone. I do like the idea that you will be able to charge your phone when away from a plug and you find yourself low on battery. The picture of the phone seems to show it with one of its applications working, a pedometer that lets you know how much you’re reducing your carbon foot print by walking instead of driving.

I don’t think I am ready for a green phone as I like the gadgets too much. For my next phone I want a touch screen, camera, blue tooth and a decent web browser that allows me to access Google maps. I currently have a Samsung D900 and I would definitely stick with Samsung for my next phone.
